Here Lies My Pulse - FIELDS Track 3

Alot of you are curious about this one...

Here Lies My Pulse is an outpouring of my heart and soul. Strange - that it was slated for "FIELDS",
it being a heart-wrenching ballad, to be sure - but it's an expressive tale of
the truest and deepest friendship.

One of those friendships that is a rare breed you stumble upon
when you're not really looking,
And when you find it, you're glad you were looking.
So you keep your eyes wide open,
for fear you might gloss over something so beautiful at any second.

The words, "Across the sea, beyond the land
Between two hillsides, inside your hand,"
were inspired by a vision I had while watching
another local artist play on stage.

Amazing how music can birth music...

THE LYRICS:

I’ve waited all to very long
To tell you that these thoughts are on my throat
The thing is I’m a fool, who’s crazy mad
And I won’t abandon what I have afloat

I look around and see holocaust
And they’ll bid on me the highest cost
But I, I’m sold

I have you, ooh oh I have you, ooh oh I
I do not need, I have you

You don’t write, I know you won’t call
You only say nothing plainly
So I dug a hole, I tore the grass
Found twisted steel and muddy brass to sustain me

Across the sea, beyond the land
Between two hillsides inside your hand
There lies my pulse

I have you, ooh oh I have you, ooh oh I
I do not need, I have you

Across the sea, beyond the land
Between two hillsides inside your hand
Across the sea, beyond the land
Between two hillsides inside your hand
Across the sea, beyond the land
Between two hillsides inside your hand
There lies my pulse

Ooh, I have you, ooh oh I have you, ooh oh I have you

Vacherie Girl - FIELDS Track 2

Vacherie Girl
is a cute little duet sung by myself and the brilliantly talented Steven Fiore.

It's a tune about my maternal grandparents - I interviewed them about their life together and wrote the song as their 50th anniversary present.

Maw-Maw, a girl from the cajun town Vacherie, Louisiana, is the biggest Saints fan I know and really does have a collection of plates from all over the world.

As children, Paw-Paw would always show us his rock collection - our imaginations ran wild over his new additions. And he really did rescue a pet cockatoo, named "Piedi," who he taught to say, "Pretty boy!"

While they may bicker about navigating their hometown, New Orleans, they coincidentally have the deepest, truest love I've seen.

This one's for them.

THE LYRICS:

Oh, angels swayed on the day that I met ya
I am a Vacherie girl, you were a farmer from Iowa
Canopy of green in New Orleans, that famous courtyard
I asked for your hand, a life began, and we made it this far.

Because you are my heart. Forever, honey, you you are my heart.

You have a collection of rocks you keep in a box, on display in our front parlor
You have a collection of plates from every state, I hung them on our living room wall
You went and rescued a cockatoo and taught it to speak
You’re the only dame who can name players on all of the ball teams.

And you are my heart. Forever, honey, you you are my heart.

Sure there are those days - though I love you babe - I don’t always like ya
Darlin’, you can make me so mad, but you’re the only one who can cheer me right up
Forgive me when I say that you just may be the world’s worst driver
Sweetie, honestly, I don’t feel safe riding shotgun with you either
Always arguing when we’re giving someone directions
Still you are my compass in this life, make no correction

Because you are my heart. Forever, honey, you are my heart. Oh, you are my heart.

Love Me Now - FIELDS Track 1

Love Me Now
is a playful, whimsical tune I wrote about the playful, whimsical stages of a blooming relationship.

The fun and games that whisk us up - the newness, the green, ripe life born in the mystery we're trying to solve in another person.

The stage we're in where - we wouldn't admit it openly - but maybe we dance our little nerdy dance unabashedly in the shaded, non-judgemental corners of our private lives. We're just that giddy about our new beau or belle.

I think it was spring, and lots of people were in love, and I realized that no matter how old (or serious) you are while dating, that baby-frolicsome stage of the relationship should be present in the beginning..and very much alive.

THE LYRICS:

You called to play today
Young man, stay down
You can wait
I’ve seen it all before,
Been through this door
And through that gate

You, you wanna test the waters
Now, now that you broke the ice
You made me slip and I wounded all my pride
Oh, all my pride

  Say it’s me you found
Finally, say you love me now

I tiptoed through the trees
You kissed me
In the chrysanthemums
I sent a little spy,
Heard through the vine it’s on
The tip of your tongue

You, you wanna test the waters
Now, now that you broke the ice
You made me slip and I wounded all my pride
Oh, all my pride

  Say it’s me you found
Finally, say you love me now

Ah, ooh.
Woo-hoo, ooh.

I sent a little spy,
Heard through the vine it’s on
The tip of your tongue

Songs Are Like People...

So I'd like to share their stories with you.

Here, I will be posting little blurbs about why I wrote them, where they came from and all the lyrics as well!
