Make Up Your Mind - with CherryCase
We recorded the bulk of "Make Up Your Mind"
at the SmoakStack in Nashville, TN.
I swear, there's a vibe in that place that remains
unmatched in my mind.
It's got something.
I can't wait to tour all along the SE on this song!

Can't beat a good beat.
Drums/ Perc day was one of my favorites.
There are infinite possibilities when it comes to the rythmic creativity of a song. We don't realize that most of our favorite songs are impact us because of the groove and general feel the percussive elements contribute.
Drums are often viewed as the backbone of a song, and we chose to track them first so we could lay our foundation.
I had the great priveledge of working with Jeff Braun, a brilliant percussionist, and we had loads of fun writing drum parts.
Thank you, Jeff, for all of your hard work, talent, energy and creativity - Cheers.
To give you a taste of what we did, here is a brainstorming session for percussion on "Love Me Now," a song where percussion consists of binder-swooshing, water bottle caps and paper tearing:

Because a cat's the only cat.
This little lady worked along side us the entire time. And became a sweet friend of mine.
She was playing hockey with a water bottle cap one night, and it sound so cool that we used it for percussion on "Love Me Now"
Us comping vocals.
Those enchanting green eyes..
So mysterious.
She likes the bass amp most.

Meet My Producer, Taylor.
Picking a producer is kind of like giving up your babies for adoption: You are trusting someone to shape and mold your offspring - the precious songs you created - so that they grow to reach their potential.
Meet Taylor Bray of Maple Studios. He is the mastermind behind all sounds, instrumentation, parts and vibe of each song on "FIELDS" and "FORESTS."
_____________________________________________________________
Here is a snippet of him writing a guitar part for "Vacherie Girl" (and also hating light. Did I mention he's a vampire?).
Above: Us working at Maple Studios
Below: Us tracking at Smoakstack Studios.
Taylor writing the cello solo for "Here Lies My Pulse."
Tracking and Composing all the bass on my record. Talented much?
He also likes to wear holey jeans.

I am so honored and humbled to have worked with him. Honored, because he's brilliant at what he does. Humbled, because he invested in my career so much that he challenged, pushed, pulled and pruned me to be a better writer, singer and player.
Thank you, Taylor, for all that you've done for my music.
